Drug bust
Gas station mgr. faces marijuana possession charge

Three employees of the Shell Food Mart in Palmetto were arrested on drug charges Tuesday in a joint operation by Tri-Cities Narcotics Task Force and Palmetto Police.

Store manager Surjit Singh, age 20, of Lilburn, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, according to Tri-Cities Commander J. Midkiff. Also charged were 28-year-old Sharra Henry, of Palmetto, and 31-year-old Fairburn resident Satwinder Singh, Midkiff said. The two were charged with a lesser charge of disorderly conduct-drugs, he said.

Seized in the incident were two bags of suspected marijuana, each containing less than one ounce, Midkiff said. One of the bags was found in the possession of Surjit Singh and another was found in his vehicle along with a scale. Midkiff said pipes and paraphernalia were found behind the counter in the store.

Midkiff said the arrests came as a result of a three-week investigation involving the sale of drugs from the Carlton Road convenience store and gas station. An investigation was initiated after receiving information from Palmetto Police and citizens in the area that illegal drugs were being sold by an employee at the business.

Palmetto Police Chief Bobby Fronebarger said Thursday he department will continue to maintain an awareness and act accordingly to combat the presence of drugs in the city.

“We continue to monitor drug activity in the city. And we try to monitor closely when issues of this nature arise,” said Fronebarger. “Any violations of the law we detect will be followed up on.”
