Sandy Creek and Landmark boys win state track titles

Christian Taylor’s three state titles and three state records in the triple jump (52’6.5”), long jump (25’6”) and 400 meter dash (46.6), and being a part of two first-place relay teams, the 4x100 (41.5) and 4x400 (3:19.210) helped the Sandy Creek Patriots capture their second straight Class AAA state title with 55.5 points.

Members of the 4x100 meter relay team are Taylor, Jonathon Ross, Rhyan Atrice, Andrew Roberts, Frank Brown-Bush and Blair Taylor.

Members of the 4x400 meter relay team are Taylor, Atrice, Bruce Truitt, DeChaun Lee, Jimi Moultire and Isaiah Johnson.
Atrice placed fourth in the 400 meter dash (48.26), while Darius Harris tied for fifth in the high jump (6’6”).

The War Eagles put up 68 total points and captured their eighth Class A state track title in school history.

Landmark’s Durrell Smith was a state champion in the 300 meter hurdles (39.55) and a state runner-up in the 110 meter hurdles (15.07), while Walter Lenard won a state title in the 110 meter hurdles (15.01) and was a state runner-up in the 300 meter hurdles (39.84).

Greg Powell was state runner-up in the high jump (6’8”), while Marlon Bryan was a state runner-up in the triple jump (43’5.5”).

Chad Thames took third place in the 3,200 meter run (9:51.880) and fifth in the pole vault (11’6”). Andrew Glaize placed seventh in the triple jump (42’7”).

Landmark’s 4x100 meter relay team of Smith, Lenard, Marlon Bryan, Greg Powell, Andrew Glaize and Blake Wyatt placed fifth (43.990). Their 4x400 meter relay team of Wyatt, Powell, Lenard, Smith, Glaize and Kenton Slaughter placed third (3:28.570).

The Our Lady of Mercy Bobcats finished in third place with a total of 53 points.

Our Lady of Mercy’s Jake Lethbridge was a state champion in the 800 meter run (1:56.52) and the 1,600 meter run (4:31.42), while brother Matt captured a state title in the 3,200 (9:45.20).

Mercy’s 4x400 meter relay team of Jarrell Bankhead, Jake Lethbridge, Jared Cooper, Christian Willis, Courtney Prevost and Matt Lethbridge placed second overall (3:26.97).

Willis placed third in the 400 meter dash (50.7) and sixth in the 800 meter run (2:04.33). Jonathan Shupenus tied for seventh in the pole vault (10’).

In the Class AAAA meet, McIntosh’s Davis Fraker was a state runner-up in the discus (144’2”), while placing fourth in the shot put (52’9.25”), while Vince Brown was a state runner-up in the 800 meter run (1:56.670), while placing 11th in the 1,600 meter run (4:35.890).

Fayette County’s Brandon Boykin placed third (23’7.5”), while Whitewater’s Joshua Clemons placed eighth in the 100 meter dash (11.08) and teammate Joanthan grooms placed eighth in the high jump (6’2”).

Starr’s Mill’s Warren Enriquez placed 12th in the 3,200 meter run (10:24.070).

McIntosh placed eighth overall in the meet, while Fayette County placed 19th.
