The Community Welcome House’s annual 5K Run/Walk to Domestic Tranquility for victims of domestic violence is scheduled for May 24, in downtown Newnan.

The event begins at 8 a.m., but pick up of packets begins at 7 a.m. Registration will take place at the First Baptist Church parking area off of Jefferson on West Washington just off the court square. You may also register by e-mailing George Martin at atr2sun98@mindspring.com. The cost of participation is $20 per runner, $15 for students and $40 for families. Registration is also available online at www.signmeupsports.com.

A family day of fun will take place on Saturday, May 10 at Kids Castle Park on Sewell Road in Newnan. The event is the idea of ninth grade student Emily Hays of Northgate High School, and will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature food, live bands, J93.3 and the unveiling of a four sided mural of “A Family at Play” designed by students from local high schools.

Murray Parks of Panoply in Newnan and a local artist are assisting with their expertise with the young artists in the presentation of this powerful mural. The community is invited to come and be a part of the day for Emily and the women and children who are victims of domestic violence that this art is dedicated to.
