The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) will be running five coaching courses in Newnan during February. The NSCAA, which is the largest Association of Coaches in the World, with over 18,000 members, will be running a variety of courses out of the Whitlock Soccer Complex in Newnan off Georgia Highway 34. Starting with the NSCAA State Diploma on Feb. 6 and 7, which is aimed at coaches, the courses will conclude with the NSCAA National GK Diploma. The courses being held are the NSCAA State Diploma, Advanced Regional Diploma and three GK courses, the State, Regional and National Diplomas. Some of the courses include membership to the NSCAA with benefits ranging from free coach’s insurance, continuing education through the NSCAA Website and conventions, to invoice priced cars.

The Coweta County Soccer Association will be sponsoring the courses to help educate the parent coach all the way up to the professional trainer’s that operate in the Metro Atlanta area. With soccer being a big business now, it is vital that clubs hire and educate their staff to the highest level possible. Alan Ewing, who is the Director of Coaching for Coweta, is also the State Director for the NSCAA having taken up both position’s in the summer.

“It is the NSCAA aim to promote the sport of soccer throughout the country and what better way to do that than by educating our coaches in the area who can pass that on to our players?” Soccer is the most popular participation sport in the state and these numbers are expected to grow as fast as the population of Metro Atlanta and with the World Cup approaching this June, it is expected to remain as the State’s number one sport.

“It is imperative that we ensure that the knowledge and education levels of the sport advances with the number of players,” added Ewing.

With over 1,200 players in Coweta alone and 4,000 on the Southside, the sport is in constant demand for volunteer coaches as well as professional trainers.

“These courses will cater to all levels of coaches. From the first time parent coach, we have the State Diploma which focuses on the young players aged 5-10. It deals with the cognitive abilities of the players as well as Developmentally Appropriate activities and games” said Ewing. The highest qualification being held this February is the National GK diploma. “Getting National Certification can mean coaches make a living from the sport. As this is also a specialist position we cater to the specialist coach and high level player’s. For every format and level of the game, the NSCAA has the appropriate certification” Ewing concluded.

More courses are expected throughout Georgia this summer, with Coweta being the hub of activity for the NSCAA.
