PTC settles for $96K in hotel-motel taxesFri, 05/02/2008 - 2:36pm
By: John Munford
Peachtree City will get a $96,000 shot in the arm thanks to a settlement over unpaid hotel-motel taxes with the company that previously owned the Aberdeen Woods Conference Center. The City Council voted unanimously to settle for the amount after meeting in executive session Thursday night before its regularly scheduled council meeting. In approving the settlement, the city is passing up an estimated additional $24,000 it could have sought in interest and penalties, said City Attorney Ted Meeker. The dispute between the city and Pitney Bowes arose because of a change in the city's law in 2002. Previously, city ordinances allowed hotels to avoid collecting hotel-motel taxes on rooms rented to hotel employees. The new law passed in 2002 changed that and required hotels and motels to collect the tax in those situations, Meeker explained. login to post comments |
