Senoia’s new reputation as a destination is giving some business owners a headache.

At the April 21 meeting, Albert Groce, who owns a video shop on Main Street, pleaded with the City Council to do something about the parking problem.

“If I could just have three spaces dedicated to my business, i would be fine,” he said.

Since Senoia’s two newest restaurants, the Redneck Gourmet and Maguire’s Irish Pub have opened, parking in downtown Senoia is at a premium.

“My business is down 50 percent. Something has to happen, or I’m going to have to shut my doors,” Groce said.

The City Council sympathized with his situation, but was not sure that reserving parking spaces for businesses was the right remedy.

Instead, the Council suggested Groce take his grievance to the Downtown Development Authority. Authority director Suzanne Helfmann said her group would be glad to discuss the issue with Groce, but did add that parking was indeed becoming an issue for the city.

The meeting will take place May 14 at 7 p.m. at City hall.
