“If My People Pray.”

Prayer will be the main event May 1 as Christians from Fayette County and surrounding areas hold an interdenominational National Day of Prayer event at the Villages Amphitheater in Fayetteville at 7 p.m.

The Thursday event will coincide with similar events across America to acknowledge the power of prayer in the life of a nation.

“I believe in the power of prayer and in being obedient to Him,” said event organizer Barbara Swafford. “Prayer is a place where we can show our humility and dependence. This interdenominational event is significant because it is a time where people can come together in unity and to get past the things that divide churches.”

The event will begin with worship and will cover topics such as education, government, marketplace/economy, family, media, arts and entertainment, science and technology, and the church. Prayers will be offered during each of those topics.

“It is our hope and prayer that the Lord will raise up a host of prayer warriors to participate in the Southern Crescent Prayer Walk,” Swafford said. “This is an unprecedented call for God’s people to literally cover the land in prayer and till the soil for harvest and restoration.”

The local effort has turned into a regional event, though most of the participants are expected to be Fayette County residents, Swafford said. It is part of the National Day of Prayer that will be conducted in events across the United States.

Swafford said the Fayette County event was birthed from a desire to unite the Bride of Christ and stand in the gap with prayer for each other, our churches and the world around us.

“We, God’s dearly loved children, will meet together at the Villages Amphitheater to worship and pray,” Swafford said. “Similar groups will be meeting across the nation and we will all lift our voices in one accord to our heavenly Father.”
