Peachtree City officials are scaling back their recommendation to replace several trucks for the city’s Public Works Department.

Because the low bids for four trucks came in over the amount budgeted, the purchase has been scaled back to three trucks based on the “most urgent need” determined by city staff.

The City Council is expected to approve this purchase at its meeting Thursday night, along with another two trucks for the city’s Recreation Department, for a grand total of $140,153.

The city is also trading in three of the older public works trucks, being a 1991 Ford F-150 with 124,000 miles on it, a 1999 Ford Crown Victoria with 132,000 miles and a 1997 Ford F-350 Stake Body with 59,000 miles.

The recreation trucks are needed to replace a 1997 truck that lacks pulling power to haul heavy equipment and an older van that was being used for an irrigation crew, city officials said in a memo to Council.

The van will be retained for other city departments to be used as an enclosed light utility hauling vehicle.
