Alton J. Wallace, 87, Peachtree City, died April 2, 2008. He was born May 22, 1920 in Plantsville, Conn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Mary Wallace, and his wife, Virginia Walker Wallace. He was graduated from Southington High School in 1937 and from Trinity College in 1941. He served in World War II in Bodney, England, as a captain and a decorated pilot. He received the Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross in the Army Air Corps. He worked for the Raytheon Company in Massachusetts for over 40 years, and retired to Peachtree City in 1983. He was a member of Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, the American Legion and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In his retirement years, he and his wife traveled extensively to Air Force reunions throughout the country. He was an avid golfer and past member of the Flat Creek Country Club, Peachtree City. Services were at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church with Pastor Miriam Beecher and Pastor Pauline Pezzino officiating. Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include his wife, Frances Bennett Wallace, Peachtree City; children, Joe and Carolyn, Peter and Becky, and Mark and Roberta; stepchildren, Joyce Ferguson, Janice Mowery and Lynn and Brad Rhodes. Memorial donations may be made to the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, P. O. Box 1992, Savannah, GA 31402. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, was in charge. login to post comments |
