Starr's Mill girls win Region 2-AAAA tennis titleMon, 04/21/2008 - 8:09am

Starr’s Mill’s girls tennis team started their run to a region 2-AAAA title by defeating Fayette County 5-0 on Tuesday. The second round saw the Lady Panthers meet their county rivals, the McIntosh Lady Chiefs, and win 4-1. In singles play, Kourtney Kowal defeated Marybeth Black 7-5, 6-1, Jessica Lange won 6-3, 6-3 over Kendall Wilde and Caroline Smith defeated Katherine Moore 6-1,6-1. In doubles play, the team of Adriana Acuna and Alden Treadway won a hard-fought match against Kelsey Paone and Stephanie Halpern, 6-7, 7-5, 6-4, while Danielle Davison and Ali Noltimier lost to Kali Cuny and Whitney Plummer 7-5, 5-7, 7-5. Starr’s Mill won the region title on Thursday with a 3-0 win over Woodward Academy. Kowal, Lange and Caroline Smith all won their singles matches, which was good enough to capture the region title.
