Two new programs have been added to this year’s celebration of Georgia Cities Week. For 2008, April 20-26 has been selected as Georgia Cities Week.

A city-inspired art contest was held in the local high schools. Art students were encouraged to participate in submitting their best entries of art in depicting this year’s theme, ‘Living it Up Downtown.’ The top eight art pieces will be displayed at the Centre for Performing and Visual Arts April 20-26.

“We are very proud of Newnan and the talent we have in our youth,” said Gina Snider, the city’s Public Information Officer. “The city’s art contest is a great way for the youth of Newnan to display their talent and show their interpretation of our city through art.”

The City of Newnan Public Works department will hold a rain garden workshop on how to recycle water to be held at Summergrove’s clubhouse on April 19. The free seminar will discuss ways on how to build a rain garden in your yard, irrigation techniques and ways you can help with stormwater pollution prevention. “The rain garden idea is a very ‘green’ idea. We are happy to provide this service to our citizens here in the City of Newnan,” said Michael Klahr, Public Works director. “This is a great way to help our environment and save water.”
