The American Red Cross – Coweta County Chapter is currently in the planning stages for its fourth annual HEROES fund-raising campaign. The HEROES campaign, scheduled to run April 27 through May 19, raises funds to support ongoing disaster relief and health and safety programs for Coweta County residents. The target goal this year is to raise $75,000 for much needed services in the county.

The HEROES campaign is a grassroots community-based program that allows individuals, business people, school groups, church groups and civic clubs to impact our community by raising money to support the Coweta County Chapter of the American Red Cross. The funds will be used to support Red Cross services, such as disaster relief, assistance for fire victims, emergency military communications, first aid and CPR training and disaster preparedness information for our community. Anyone can become a hero. Individuals, businesses and corporate sponsors can participate by raising or donating funds. Participants receive recognition at both the kick-off and closing celebration luncheons and newspaper recognition. This year the suggested amount for individual heroes to raise is $1,000.

Fund-raising activities this year also includes the selling of Red Cross squares to local area banks, churches, grocery stores, restaurants and bowling alleys. Area businesses sell the squares to individual customers who wish to donate to the campaign. A motivational kick-off luncheon will be held on Monday, April 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Special Event Center of Newnan, 299 Bullsboro Drive. A closing celebration luncheon will be held on Monday, May 19 at 11:30 a.m. at the same location.

This year’s campaign chairman and spokesperson is Walt Gutierrez, president of Toyota of Newnan. “For years, Red Cross has recognized the heroes in our communities, now Red Cross is asking members of our community to become a hero for Red Cross,” said Gutierrez. “Support for the Coweta Chapter this year is much needed.”

“This is a wonderful opportunity for individuals as well as our business and corporate community to come together to help, in some way, the victims of local house fires and much needed health and safety programs for our county,” said Sheila Davis, executive director. “Our community is made up of big hearted, hard working individuals and business leaders. We are very proud of the ongoing generosity of our county residents.”
