Teams play final games of the regular season

The regular season of high school soccer ends this week, and the state playoffs begin next week. While the pecking order in Region 2-AAAA for the girls is set (McIntosh, Whitewater, Starr’s Mill and Woodward Academy), games played last night will effect the spots for the boys in Region 2-AAAA.

Starr’s Mill’s boys (10-3, 6-0 region) took on Woodward Academy after the paper went to press. If the Panthers, ranked third in AAAA, win, they will be the No. 1 seed in the region, followed by McIntosh, Woodward Academy and Whitewater. The Lady Panthers (9-2-1, 5-1 region), ranked fourth in AAAA, played Woodward last night as well.

McIntosh’s Lady Chiefs (10-3-1, 6-1 region), ranked third in AAAA, close out the season with a game against Lassiter last night and a game against Harrison tonight. The boys (14-1, 6-1 region), ranked No. 1 in AAAA, took on Pace last night and will face Harrison this afternoon to close out their season.

Whitewater’s girls (9-5, 6-1 region) lost to Parkview, ranked number one among all classifications, 1-0 on Saturday. They played at Westminster last night and will play at St. Pius, ranked number one in Class AAAA, tonight. The boys (8-6-1, 4-3 region), ranked seventh in AAAA, will also close out the season with games against Westminster and St. Pius.

Fayette County’s boys and girls ended their season last night with games against Carrollton. On Monday, the boys (8-7-1, 3-4 region) beat Newnan 4-0, while the Lady Tigers (5-9. 2-5 region) lost 4-1.

Scoring for the boys were Chris Feigenbaum (two goals), Luis Martinez and John Aymerich.
Sandy Creek’s boys (7-7, 3-3 region) and girls (6-8, 4-2 region) finished their regular season with games against Cartersville on Friday. They hosted Landmark Christian last night after the paper went to press.

Our Lady of Mercy’s boys (6-7, 2-2 region) have a busy final week of their regular season, facing Mundy’s Mill yesterday after the paper went to press, playing at Atlanta International today and hosting Mt. Pisgah on Thursday. The Lady Bobcats (10-4, 4-1 region) wrapped up the regular season with a game against Mundy’s Mill yesterday after the paper went to press.

The state soccer playoffs start next Tuesday for the boys and next Wednesday for the girls.
