ASAP Africa welcomes new Malawi Program Coordinator

London, New York, Peachtree City, Chikwawa. “Peachtree City beats the rest hands down!” according to Jeanette Batiste, ASAP Africa’s new Malawi Program Coordinator. After spending a week in Peachtree City in early February, enjoying absolutely beautiful spring-like weather, she returned to snow covered Rochester, New York where she will stay with her family until departing for Chikwawa, in southern Malawi, March 3rd. Jeanette will spearhead a new program there for ASAP Africa, a locally based International Non-profit Organization. Chikwawa District is one of the most impoverished in Malawi. www.asapafrica.org

Batiste spent a year and a half working for African Parks Foundation and 2 years for Peace Corps in Chikwawa, Malawi before earning her Master’s degree in Environment and Development from the London School of Economics. “It will be like returning to my second home, she said. I will be helping the same people I worked with before, to improve their own lives but on a bigger scale. Working together is the key to success and ASAP’s poverty alleviation & health program combined with skills training will bring a needed boost to this desperately poor area.”

After enjoying a Partners Pizza, Jeanette joined ASAP’s President, Tom Arsenault, on a short tour of the PTC library and they stopped for this photo at the nearby memorial. “My father will like this because Army is on top where it belongs!” She grinned as she explained that her dad is a retired 2 Star Army General.

ASAP now has a campaign to raise $170,000 for the Malawi program and would like the opportunity to speak at Churches and Organizations to explain ASAP’s work. The Dan and Paige Walden Christian Fund of Dunwoody, GA has generously pledged $10,000 to kick start the fund raising. Dan Walden has challenged individuals, Churches, Schools and Organizations to partner with ASAP to help make this project a real success.
