The Fayette County Board of Education kicked off the new year Monday night by holding elections for chairman and vice-chairman.

School spokesperson Melinda Berry-Dreisbach said both Chairman Terri Smith and Lee Wright were re-elected unanimously to their posts and the board also established the third Monday of the month as the regular meeting time.

The board also announced a retreat will take place at the LaFayette Educational Center Jan. 21 at 8:30 a.m. Berry-Dreisbach said the agenda will follow the school system’s strategic plan and should last about four hours. Instructional policies should take up most of the time at the retreat, she added.
