A south Fayette man fought with nine deputies after breaking into a home near his house on Rising Starr Road Thursday, police said.

The couple who lives at the home escaped quickly, getting into a vehicle and backing out of the garage while deputies made their way to the home at 848 Rising Starr Road, said Lt. Belinda McCastle of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies first saw the suspect, identified as Cornelius Hunter, 33, of Fayetteville, pacing around the kitchen area, where he injured his hands banging on windows, McCastle said. Hunter disregarded verbal commands and deputies had to wait for a large enough contingent to subdue Hunter.

Hunter was so combative that he could not be transported to the hospital in an ambulance and instead he was taken in a patrol car, McCastle said.

Hunter is charged with felony counts of possession of cocaine, burglary and obstruction of a police officer.
