Fayette has many talented student writers and eight of the best representing the elementary and middle school levels have been selected to participate in a statewide competition.

The Young Georgia Authors’ Writing Competition, sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education, recognizes students for their work in original composition. The 2008 competitors representing Fayette are Carrie Grimes, kindergarten, Kedron Elementary; Lane Wortman, first grade, Kedron Elementary; Alyssa Gage, second grade, Peeples Elementary; Liam O’Connell, third grade, Huddleston Elementary; Riley Nix, fourth grade, Brooks Elementary; Breahna McNeirney, fifth grade, Oak Grove Elementary; Taylor Sturdivant, seventh grade, Whitewater Middle and Van Christopher Carter, eighth grade, Whitewater Middle.

The competitors were selected by the school system from among entries submitted system-wide. Only one entry per grade level can advance to the state competition. The state winners will be recognized in September at the Georgia Board of Education meeting.
