Think you know your city? Join us as the City of Newnan celebrates Georgia Cities Week. April 20 – 26, 2008 has been selected as Georgia Cities Week the theme being ‘Living it Up Downtown.’ In Newnan, many activities are planned throughout the week to teach citizens about the role of local government and the importance of civic involvement. Events will include the city of Newnan and its much anticipated grand opening for its newest park, Greenville Street Park, on April 25th. The park is complete with a 25-column colonnade and plaza. It features a lot of "hardscape" and brickwork. In addition to the colonnade, there is a sunken lawn/amphitheater, a fountain, cherry blossom garden and plenty of tables and benches for lunch crowds. Hometown favorite country duo, The Wrights will be performing the evening of April 26 in celebration of the grand opening. More details to come on the grand opening. The city partnered with The Bear 92.5. Local DJs will ask city trivia each day and the caller with the correct answers will win various prizes from local downtown businesses such as Hit the Trail, Newnan Health and Fitness, R.S. Mann Jeweler’s, Bank of Coweta, Epitome for M Cole, Chef to Go, Newnan Optimist Club, and Seed Sower. The trivia contest is designed to give listeners a chance to learn more about their city and become more acquainted with city operations. The Newnan Police Department and Newnan Fire Department will visit Newnan Crossing Elementary School April 25. The police officers and firefighters will visit with the 1st graders to discuss safety practices. “We are very proud of Newnan and the services we provide that make it attractive to residents and visitors,” said Gina Snider, the city’s Public Information Officer. “Too often, people are unaware of how cities enhance their quality of life, and we would like to invite them to come out to these events and learn more about the government that works for them.” On April 18, the Newnan Coweta Art Association will have their annual Spring Art Walk on the square in downtown and also on April 19, the Newnan Coweta Historical Society will present their annual Spring Tour of Homes from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Tickets are available at Scott’s Bookstore and the Male Academy Museum. login to post comments |
