Starr's Mill dominant on golf course

The Starr’s Mill Panthers have been dominant on the golf course of late.

Starr’s Mill defeated Newnan 153-170 April 3 at the Newnan Country Club.

The Panthers had four players score in the 30s. Leading Starr’s Mill on the day were three players who shot rounds of two over par: sophomores Brandon Hurst and Nick Burns and junior Andrew Garner.

Senior Peter Cummings followed with a 39 to round out the scoring. Travis Snyder also played well in the match for Starr’s Mill.

The day before, Starr’s Mill defeated Sandy Creek and Haralson County in a tri-match at the Durham Lakes Golf Club.

The Panthers shot a team score of 160, with Sandy Creek posting a score of 179 and Haralson County a score of 182.

Starr’s Mill was led by Burns, who shot a round of one under par 36, and Cummings, who finished with an even par 37.

The Panthers also defeated East Coweta 152-171 at the Planterra Ridge Golf Club and Whitewater 152-166 at the Planterra Ridge Golf Club.

Starr’s Mill was led by a pair of sophomores against East Coweta: Burns and Hurst, who both shot rounds of one over par 37.

Another sophomore, Austin Chardac, followed with an excellent round of 38. Blake Scherer and Snyder also played well for the Panthers in the match.

Chardac turned in the only the third even par round of the year for the Panthers against Whitewater, carding a score of 36 on the day.

Cummings followed with a round of two over par 38, and Garner finished with a round of 39. Also shooting 39 for the day and having his best afternoon of the spring was sophomore Kyle Petty. Senior Rick Hagauer also performed well in the match for the Panthers.
