Some legislators tried to usurp voters

As the chairman of the Fayette County Republican Party, I wanted to let Representative Matt Ramsey know how much we appreciate the great job he did on behalf of our community during his first legislative session. During the abbreviated campaign, Ramsey promised to fight for Fayette County and stand up for conservative principles. He kept his promises.

During the session, we saw several members of the legislature representing Fayette County attempt to defy the will of the citizens of our community.

Democrat Rep. Virgil Fludd attempted to usurp local control of our electoral process by introducing district voting.

Rep. Ramsey rallied opposition at the General Assembly and convinced an overwhelming majority of members of the state House to reject this effort in a bipartisan vote of 91 to 48.

Ramsey answered the call again in helping defeat Senate Bill 458, a piece of legislation amended by Democrat Senator Valencia Seay prior to introduction in the House that would have forced the Fayette County School District to accept students from the failed system in Clayton County. This legislation would have been detrimental to our community.

The fact Senator Seay, who represents a portion of Fayette County, would introduce such a bill is not only shameful, but should serve as a wake-up call to our community during the next election cycle.

With Democrat politicians such as Rep. Fludd and Sen. Seay claiming to represent our community, I’m glad to know Republican Rep. Matt Ramsey is on duty at the Capitol, holding true to his conservative principles and working hard to keep Fayette County a wonderful place to live.

Keep up the great work, Matt!
