Fayette Scores High in MathFax Competition

MathFax, a national math competition, began in the fall of 1996 with 20 schools participating and has quickly grown to over 700 schools nationwide. This competition was created to sharpen the participating student’s test taking math skills needed to do well on college entrance exams.

MathFax consists of four tests, with a possible total score of 100 points. This year, 4,381 3rd, 4th and 5th grade public school students competed from across the United States. Fayette county students consistently ranked in the top 15 of all participating schools for this group.

The following are the results for Fayette County Elementary students:

Third grade: Kedron Elementary placed first in the Nation, Braelinn Elementary came in 5th and Oak Grove Elementary was in 13th place.

Fourth Grade: Braelinn Elementary finished 3rd in the Nation, with Kedron Elementary in 6th place and Oak Grove Elementary in 8th.

Fifth Grade results showed that Braelinn Elementary ranked 1st in the Nation, with Kedron Elementary placing 6th Nationwide.

Luke Nagy, a fifth grader at Braelinn Elementary, scored 100 points total on the 4 tests, ranking him in 1st place in the Nation for the second year in a row.
