The Sandy Creek Lady Patriots are headed to the state playoffs.

Creek secured a spot in the state playoffs with a 7-0 victory Tuesday over Region 6-AAA rival Cedartown.

Creek’s boys weren’t as fortunate, as they lost their third consecutive match, 3-1 to Cedartown.

The Lady Patriots’ scoring attack was led by Linda Lehman, who had a hat trick, and Keri O’Neill, Lyndsey Coleman and Jamie Little, each of whom had one goal.

As it stands now, Creek’s girls (6-8, 4-2 region) hold the No. 3 seed in the region.
In the boys game, Cedartown took a 2-0 lead in the first half.

Creek’s Garrett Harper drew a foul in the second half, and he was awarded a penalty kick, which he converted for the Patriots’ lone goal of the match.

Creek’s boys (7-7, 3-3 region) are set to make the playoffs, but their seeding still must be determined based on the outcome of their region opponents games.

Starr’s Mill ended Northgate’s playoffs hopes, and extended its own winning streak to four, with a 4-0 victory Tuesday over Northgate in a Region 2-AAAA game.

The game was scoreless until Many McCalla scored the only goal the Lady Panthers would need on a shot from Mandy McCalla that sailed over the head of Northgate goalkeeper Hilary Masdon and into the net with 14:55 left in the first half.

McCalla went on to score two more goals for Starr’s Mill to complete a hat trick.

Starr’s Mill’s other goal was scored by Carlie Banks.

The third-ranked Starr’s Mill boys also defeated Northgate, 5-0.

Starr’s Mill’s girls (9-2-1, 5-1 region) and boys (10-3, 6-0 region) were slated to play Region 2-AAAA rival Woodward Academy last night after the paper went to press.

McIntosh’s third-ranked girls demolished their last two opponents, Region 2-AAAA rivals Creekside 15-0 Thursday and Westlake 15-0 Tuesday.

The Lady Chiefs had four players who scored at least three goals against Westlake: Meghan O’Rourke (four goals, one assist), Olivia Tucker (three goals, two assists), Kate Marnock (three goals, one assist) and KC Hewitt (three goals).

Hannah Rector and Emily Husted each scored one goal apiece. Bethany Austin had two assists, and Rector, Kerri Reid, Taylor Cook, Laura Higgason and Erin Pincombe each had one assist.

The second-ranked McIntosh boys pounded their last two opponents, Creekside (14-0) and Westlake (9-0).

McIntosh’s girls (10-3-1, 6-0 region) and boys (13-1, 6-1 region) play host today to Marist, whose girls are ranked second in the state and whose boys are ranked fifth in the state.
