McIntosh’s boys and girls improved to 4-1 in region play with wins over Woodward Academy last Friday. The boys (11-1-1, 4-1 region), ranked second in Class AAAA, won 1-0 with a goal from David Fratto, while the girls, ranked third in Class AAAA, won 2-0 on goals from Kate Marnock. On top of a tremendous effort on defense from the entire team, solid goalkeeping secured the wins for the McIntosh teams. Michael White has been in the net for six shutouts for the boys, while the Lady Chiefs (8-3-1, 4-1 region) have five shutouts on the season and four in a row with Nikki Atkinson in the net for several of those wins. Lady Chiefs head coach Marcia Clark praised the defensive play of KC Hewitt, Tawny Moffat, Erin Pincombe, Laura Higgason and Taylor Cook. The McIntosh boys followed the win with a 1-1 tie against Salem, ranked 11th in Class AAAA, that was postponed due to weather. McIntosh took on Westlake on the road last night and will play at Creekside on Thursday before hosting an afternoon double-header against Marist on Saturday. The girls will play at 2 p.m. and the boys will play at 4 p.m. The Marist girls are ranked second in AAAA and the boys are ranked fifth. Starr’s Mill’s boys are ranked fourth in Class AAAA and are on an eight-game winning streak. The Panthers (9-3, 5-0 region) blanked Creekside 15-0 last Thursday and then defeated Harrison, ranked number one in all classifications, 2-1 last Friday. Scoring for Starr’s Mill in their win over the Seminoles were Ryan O’Shaughnessy with four goals and three assists, Jerry O’Hara with two goals and one assist, Gray Phelps and Colin Mallon each with two goals, Jesy Phelps with a goal and an assist, Landon Smith with a goal and two assists, Sam Martin and Jon Murtaugh with a goal a piece, Mark Trinquero with a goal and an assist, Danny Hojaij with two assists, and Ryan Clark with one assist. Against Harrison, Mallon scored the lone goal in regulation off an assist from Danny Hojaij. In shootout, goalkeeper Chris Ward stopped two Harrison shots and the Panthers scored on all four. The Lady Panthers (8-2-1, 4-1 region) are ranked fifth in Class AAAA. They also defeated Creekside 15-0 and then followed it with a 1-0 win over Harrison. Against Creekside, Laura McCalla and Mandy McCalla each had four goals in the win, while Carlie Banks scored two and Lauren Swany, Caitlyn Daniels, Victoria Hopkins, Kelli Davis and Brittany Schwanitz each had one. Banks scored the lone goal against Harrison, while Stuart Pope and Mandy McCalla controlled the midfield well and the defense kept Harrison from scoring. It was their eighth shutout of the season. Starr’s Mill played at Northgate last night and will play at Woodward Academy on Friday. Fayette County’s boys and girls each picked up two wins last Thursday and Friday. The boys (6-6-1, 3-3 region) beat Woodland-Stockbridge 6-4 on Thursday with goals scored by Okurin Aiyankhebor, Chris Feigenbaum, Bobby Dodd and Eric Cruz. On Friday, the Tigers picked up a 4-2 win over Troup with goals coming from Luis Martinez, Aiyankhebor, Dodd and Feigenbaum. Fayette County hosts Whitewater tomorrow night. Whitewater’s girls (8-3, 5-1 region), ranked fourth in Class AAAA, have won four games in a row. The boys (7-6, 3-3 region) defeated Forest Park 9-2 last Thursday. They are ranked ninth in Class AAAA. Sandy Creek’s boys and girls were handed tough region losses last week. The boys (7-5, 3-2 region) fell to the top-ranked Carrollton team 1-0 last Tuesday and lost to Cass 3-2 in overtime on Friday. The girls (5-7, 3-2 region) lost 6-1 to Carrollton and 3-1 to Cass. Sandy Creek hosted Cedartown last night and will host Heritage tonight. Our Lady of Mercy’s girls defeated Pike County, ranked 12th in Class AA/A, 2-1 in overtime on Friday and followed it with an 8-0 win over Pacelli on Saturday. Catie Palmer had five goals in the two wins, while Jessica Adams added three. Ashli Kennedy added three assists in the wins. The Lady Bobcats (9-4, 4-1 region) lost to 13th-ranked Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy 3-0 on Monday. The boys (5-7, 2-2 region) lost 1-0 to Pike County and 3-2 to Pacelli. Goals for the boys were scored by Jacob Lecesne and Udare Santha. The win over Pike County was good enough to lock up a trip to the state playoffs for the Lady Bobcats. login to post comments |
