Eugene C. Dettmering, 85, Fayetteville, died March 29, 2008. He was born April 12, 1922 in Fayette County, son of the late O'Neil L. "Whitey" and Louvale Brown Dettmering. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beth Dettmering and a daughter, Patsy Dettmering Abercrombie. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Seabees, 105th Naval Construction. He was retired from Ryder Truck Lines. He was a member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, and a member of the Fayetteville Masonic Lodge F&AM #711.

Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with interment at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include sons, Eugene and Denise Dettmering Jr., Newnan, and Matt and Jody Dettmering Brooks; a daughter, Pam and Mark Neal, Brooks; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jack and Mary Dettmering, Fayetteville. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
