Coweta-Fayette Rotary Club gets charter

A new Rotary Club has just recently been founded in the Coweta-Fayette area. Officially named the Rotary Club of Coweta-Fayette, the new club celebrated with a charter party last month at the Tyrone Depot event center. In addition to most of the 22 club members and their spouses, the evening also included a number of visiting Rotary leaders from across Rotary District 6900.

The club was formed at the initiative of the Peachtree City Rotary Club. Founding president Sam Morris, who had previous experience in the Meriwether County Rotary Club, was instrumental in getting the movement off the ground. Since spring of 2007, the club has grown to over 20 members, participated in the Dragon Boat Races last October, supported the Fayette County Jail GED program, helped Newnan’s Community Welcome House abuse shelter and more.

An evening club, the Coweta-Fayette Rotary Club currently meets on Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m. at the Georgia Café on Huddleston Road in Peachtree City. Drawing people from both Coweta and Fayette counties, it is the club’s expressed intention to involve people from both sides of Line Creek—and, in turn, to benefit both counties. For more information, contact Sam Morris at 770-487-3552.
