Immediately after Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf coast, Prudential Georgia Realty and its more than 1,300 sales associates wanted to do something to assist the Hurricane Katrina victims. Many offices and individual sales associates began collecting money, clothing and furnishings to donate to area charities. Several people took vanloads of supplies to affected areas. Others opened their homes to family, friends and complete strangers.
In addition, through its parent company’s nonprofit arm, the Prudential Foundation, a nationwide fundraiser was started in which Prudential Foundation matched all funds contributed.
In just over a month’s time, Prudential Georgia Realty employees and real estate agents donated nearly $36,000 to aid in Hurricane Katrina relief. With the matching funds program, nearly $72,000 will go to assist rebuilding this region.
“We could not, in good conscience, sit idly by while our neighbors in the Gulf coast struggled for their very survival,” explained Prudential Georgia Realty President and CEO Dan Forsman. “This company has a long history of philanthropy and, right after the hurricane, I started receiving countless calls and emails from associates wanting to help.”
Many of Prudential Georgia Realty’s associates have family members living in the Gulf coast area affected by the natural disaster. In addition, more than 1,000 Prudential real estate associates and employees were affected and displaced from that region.
