Gene Barber, president and owner of Gene Barber Contracting in Fayetteville, was recently elected as a senior life director of the National Association of Home Builders.
Brian Catalde, an officer of NAHB, thanked Barber for his loyalty to NAHB. “I know the commitment it requires to attain and participate at NAHB board meetings for the 10 years required to achieve the Life Director status,” said Catalde. “Then to attain Senior Life status through an additional 10 consecutive years of service is a great testimony to your dedication to NAHB and the building industry.”
As a senior life director, Barber has attained permanent voting rights on the NAHB board with no continuing attendance requirement.
Barber has a long list of credentials with the Home Builders Association of Midwest Georgia and the Home Builders Association of Georgia. On the local level, he has served as secretary, treasurer, vice president, and as president in both 1977 and 1989. He has been State Director from Midwest Georgia since 1974, and he was instrumental in implementing the Midwest Georgia association’s Scholarship Program, serving as chairman of this program.
His Home Builders Association of Georgia involvement includes serving as state president in 1993, being NAHB National Representative for four years, serving as area vice president covering the Metro South area for four years, plus being a BPAC (Builder Political Action Committee) trustee, Lewis Cenker Scholarship committee member, and NAHB State Representative from Georgia.
He is one of the founding directors of Builders Insurance Group, Georgia’s leading provider of workers comp insurance to the building industry.
Gene Barber Contracting was founded in 1972 and does residential and light commercial building in the Metro South area.
