• Homan graduates from basic combat training

Army Pvt. Suzanne B. Homan has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. She is the daughter of David L. and Linda M. Homan of Fayetteville, Ga. and a 2007 graduate of Sandy Creek High School, Tyrone, Ga.

• Farman wins title of Miss Carpet Capital 2008

Lydia Farman was crowned the new Miss Carpet Capital 2008 at Dalton High School in Dalton, Ga. in February. Farman is a 23 year old elementary school teacher in Athens, Ga. pursuing a masters degree in early childhood education. She is the daughter of Bruce and Leanne Farman of Fayetteville, Ga. She was an honor graduate from Landmark Christian School in 2002. As the new Miss Carpet Capital, she will represent this pageant in the Miss Georgia Pageant in June in Columbus, Ga., which is apart of the Miss America Organization. In addition to winning the crown, Lydia was also the recipient of both the talent award and the interview award during the pageant. Farman also competed in swimsuit, evening gown and on-stage question. For her talent, she sang Patsy Cline's "Sweet Dreams," displaying not only her talent, but also her love for old-time country music. She also performed at the charity event, Pumps for Pets Cabaret Show in Atlanta, benefiting PALS Atlanta: Pets Are Loving Support, Inc.

• Burke graduates from basic combat training

Army Pvt. Zachary S. Burke has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. He is the son of Margo Burke of Fayetteville, Ga. and a 1997 graduate of Fayette County High School, Fayetteville.
