Hospital to add ICU, surgical unit, 2 floorsTue, 03/18/2008 - 3:57pm

Piedmont Fayette Hospital is looking to expand again. A proposal at Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission March 11 would add 51,011 square feet to the facility, including the addition of a fourth and fifth floor over the new birthing center. Senior Planner Linwood Robinson said plans call for the addition of a fourth floor ortho/observation unit at 24,289 square feet; a fifth floor intensive medical care unit/medical surgical unit at 19,651 square feet; 4,361 square feet of shell space for future use on the third floor; 1,985 square feet of stairway to the roof and mechanical penthouse; and a 725-square-foot mechanical powerhouse addition. Robinson told commissioners the proposed addition to the hospital building would take place atop the existing structure and that no site work would be necessary for this project. The proposed project would make use of the current utilities with the exception of a new cooling tower that will be located adjacent to the two existing towers. He said the proposed exterior would match the current brick veneer facade with accent banding and colored mortar. City planning staff recommended approval of the elevations, saying the proposed changes are necessary to accommodate the hospital’s growth of services. Robinson said the proposed exterior materials and facade treatments would match the existing building and would have no adverse affect on surrounding land use. The expansion will require additional parking. That need will be addressed with Fayette County Commission since the parking area is situated outside city limits. Commissioners will consider the proposal at the March 25 regular session. login to post comments |
