Area churches announce Holy Week & Easter activitiesTue, 03/18/2008 - 2:44pm

Holy Week for most Christians began last Sunday with Palm Sunday and will continue and culminate this weekend with Easter, the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. Many observe other holy days during this special week and have announced their services and events occurring through Easter Sunday. The traditional Community Good Friday service in Peachtree City this year is being hosted by Holy Trinity Catholic Church at noon on March 21. Worshipers may come and go as their work schedules permit. Holy Trinity is on the corner of Walt Banks Road and Ga. Hwy. 54. Other area churches which have given notice of their Easter activities are listed below in alphabetical order. ------ All Saints Anglican Church on Kelly Drive in Peachtree City will have a Maundy Thursday Service on March 20, with Holy Communion at 7 p.m. Atlanta City Church will celebrate Easter on two campuses, one in Fairburn and another in Peachtree City. The Fairburn Campus, at 3355 Old Jonesboro Rd., Fairburn, will have Easter worship at 9 a.m. Sunday, March 23. The Peachtree City Campus, at 320 Dividend Dr., will have Easter worship Saturday, March 22 at 5 p.m. and Sunday, March 23 at 11 a.m. For information, call 770-964-2138. Bethany United Methodist Church will have a Good Friday Service March 21 at 7 p.m. An Easter Sunrise Service will be held at 7 a.m. Sunday and an Easter Sunday worship service at 11 a.m. at the church. Bethany is on the corner of Rivers/Milam Road and Lee’s Lake Road in north Fayette County. Brooks United Methodist Church will host a Maundy Thursday Communion Service Thursday, March 20, at 7 p.m. A Good Friday Service is scheduled for March 21 at 7 p.m. Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City will have Easter worship at 11 a.m. March 23, featuring the church’s choir and orchestra. Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m. The church is at 101 Carriage Lane (at Ga. Hwy. 54) in Peachtree City. For information, call 770-631-4618. St. Gabriel Catholic Church parishioners will celebrate Holy Thursday, March 20, with Mass at 7 p.m. On Good Friday, March 21, the reading of Christ’s seven last words will be observed from noon until 3 p.m. Traditional Stations of the Cross and the reading of the Passion will begin at 3 p.m. A traditional Good Friday Mass with Communion, reading of the Passion and Veneration of the Cross, will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Friday. On Holy Saturday, an Easter Vigil Mass will be celebrated at 8 p.m. On Easter Sunday, Masses will be celebrated at 8 and 10:30 a.m. and at 12:15 p.m. St. Gabriel is at 152 Antioch Rd., Fayetteville. Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City will have a Maundy Thursday Service on March 20 at 12:15 p.m. at the church and at 7 p.m. at First Presbybterian Church on Willowbend Road, with combined choirs and all pastors leading the service. Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church will have Easter worship services Sunday morning at 8 and 10 a.m. A nursery will be available at the 10 a.m. service. The church is on Ga. Dogwood Church will host “A Night of Prayer Unlike Any Other” Thursday, March 20 at 7 p.m. Members of Edgefield Baptist Church of Fayetteville, 140 Church Street, invite the community to join them for their Resurrection Weekend Celebration. The celebration will kick off on Good Friday, March 21 at 7 p.m. with a play entitled “The Crucifixion.” A Sonrise Service, followed by a light breakfast, is planned for Sunday, March 23 at 7 a.m. At 10 a.m. the festivities will climax with “The Resurrection.” The Episcopal Church of the Nativity will celebrate Easter week beginning Thursday, March 20, with a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. Fayetteville First Baptist Church will have a Maundy Thursday service March 20 at 6 p.m. in the Ministry Center. Sunday worship services are at 8 and 10:15 a.m. The church is on Stonewall Avenue in downtown Fayetteville. Fayetteville First United Methodist Church will have a Maundy Thursday service of Holy Communion March 20 at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary. A Good Friday service, a service of word and song, will be held in the sanctuary March 21, at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday services are planned for 8:30, 9:45 and 11 a.m., with all services in the sanctuary. The church is in downtown Fayetteville across the street from the Faeytte County Courthouse. First Baptist Church in Peachtree City will have two services on Easter Sunday, one at 9 a.m. with the choir, and another at 10:35 a.m. with the Praise Band. First Presbyterian Church, Peachtree city will begin Holy Week activities with a Maundy Thursday fellowship supper (sandwiches and salad) at 6 p.m. on March 20 A service will follow at 7 p.m. Members will join other members of the community in celebrating the Community Good Friday Service at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at noon on Friday. Easter Sunday services will be at 9 a.m. (contemporary) and 11:15 a.m. (traditional). The church is at 206 Willowbend Rd., Peachtree City. Sunday School starts at 9:30 a.m. There will be no evening service on Easter Sunday. Flint Ridge Baptist Church in Fayetteville and the Fellowship of Christian Churches & Friends invites the entire community to its “Son Rise” worship service on Sunday, March 23, at 6:30 a.m. The Reverend Edward Johnson, Pastor of the Flat Rock AME Church in Fayetteville will be the guest speaker. Heritage Christian Church will offer four Easter services, Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. Infant and toddler care will be offered at the 8 a.m. Sunday service. Full children’s programming, including infant and toddler care, will be offered at all other services. Heritage Christian Church is at the intersection of Redwine Road and Peachtree Parkway on the south side of Peachtree City. Holy Trinity Catholic Church will have Masses Wednesday at 7 and 9 a.m., at noon, and 7 p.m. Tenebrae will be at 7:30 p.m. Liberty Baptist Church is having a Community Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, March 22 at 10 a.m. Children can bring their Easter baskets for an egg hunt, snow cones and fun. The hunt will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 10 a.m. All children are invited. National Heights Baptist Church will have two special celebration services during Holy Week, Good Friday March 21 at 7 p.m. and Easter Sunday, March 23, at 10:55 a.m. The Sanctuary and Adult Handbell Choirs will present seasonal music by Handel, Faur, Stainer, Martin, Janborn, Butler, and Young along with selected scriptural readings highlighting the suffering, death, and resurrection of Christ. The public is invited and a nursery will be provided. National Heights is on Ga. Hwy. 54 West, at the intersection of Old Norton and Sandy Creek Roads, Fayetteville. New Hope Baptist Church, North Campus, will have an early worship service Easter Sunday at 8 a.m. and a late worship service at 10:45 a.m. The North Campus is at 551 New Hope Road, Fayetteville. New Life in Christ Anglican Church in Coweta County will have a Good Friday Service March 21 at 4 p.m. with the solemn collects followed by a Stations of the Cross Service. New Life Ministries will begin its Easter celebration with an Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, March 22, at noon at McCurry Park in Fayetteville. Peachtree City Christian Church will host an Easter Egg Hunt for the children Saturday, March 22, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Four services will be available for Easter Sunday worshipers: Cafe Worship at 9:30 a.m., Traditional Worship at 9:45 a.m.; Cafe Worship again at 10:45 a.m. and Contemporary Worship at 11 a.m. Peachtree City First Presbyterian Church will host Maundy Thursday activities March 20 beginning with a soup and sandwich dinner at 6 p.m., followed by the Maundy Thursday Service at 7 p.m. Peachtree City United Methodist Church’s Holy Week schedule includes a Maundy Thursday service and Easter Sunday services at both campuses. The church will participate in the community Good Friday Service on March 21 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Walt Banks Road at Ga. Hwy. 54. Prince of Peace Lutheran Church will have a Maundy Thursday Service March 20 at 7 p.m. This is a famaily-friendly communion service. On Good Friday, March 21, the church will have a Tenebrae Service at 8 p.m. Easter Sunday services are planned for 7:30 a.m. (sunrise), 9:15 a.m. (contemporary), and 11:15 a.m. (traditional). in addition, an Easter Egg Hunt is planned for 10:45 a.m. between services. Providence United Methodist Church will host a Maundy Thursday Service Thursday, March 20th. The hour-long event begins promptly at 7 p.m. and will include four dramatic portrayals of people whose lives were affected by Jesus, followed by music and Holy Communion. Childcare is provided for children unable to sit quietly throughout the service. Those attending are advised to arrive early as there will be no late admittance due to the reverence of the service. Redemption Fellowship will present “The Living Last Supper” on Maundy Thursday, March 20, at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The church is at 418 Ga. Hwy. 279 in Fayetteville. ReGen Fellowship will celebrate Easter with a non-traditional service that features its young Worship Band, new drama team, and a new two part teaching series titled “The No Shame Zone” by lead pastor Bruce Hebel. South Metro Ministries, a Church of God congregation near Thomas Crossroads in Coweta County, will offer three services on Easter Sunday morning, at 8, 9:15 and 11 a.m. Special music will be performed by the Sanctuary Choir and Holy Communion will be observed. Childcare will be provided for all services. The church is at 3935 Ga. Hwy. 34, just east of Thomas Crossroads. Southside Baptist Church in Fayettevile will host a free community cookout and Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, March 22, beginning at 11 a.m. Children should bring their own baskets or bags. More than 1,000 candy-filled eggs will be available. Free hot dogs, slaw, chips, drinks and desserts will be available following the egg hunt. A hay ride will be held during the day and the Easter Rabbit will make an appearance. Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Newnan will have Holy Thursday Mass and Celebration of the Lord’s supper at 7 p.m. on March 20. St. Paul Lutheran Church will have a Maundy Thursday service March 20 at 7 p.m. in the Worship Center (gym). A Good Friday service will be held at noon in the cafeteria and again at 7 p.m. in the Worship Center (two services). On Friday, March 21, Unity Christian Church will host a “Time for Prayer and Remembering Jesus' Seven Last Words” from noon until 3 p.m. Woolsey Baptist Church will host a “He Is Alive Celebration” on Saturday, March 22, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. This is a free, community-wide event. |
