The American Cancer Society of Fayette County and the Relay for Life organizing committee is searching for local cancer survivors who would like to participate in this year's Relay For Life event and Survivor/Caregiver Dinner.

Relay For Life is an annual fund-raiser that raises money for research and development towards patient treatment and finding a cure for cancer.

The Relay For Life event, which starts at 7 p.m. on May 2 at the Kiwanis Fairgrounds, will be a night-long spectacular gathering of individuals and teams walking and/or running around a track and working towards the goal of raising as much money as possible.

The event is open to the public, where in addition to the walk/run, others will be selling baked goods and crafts.

This year's Survivor Dinner will be held at 5:30 p.m. on April 27 at the Kiwanis building, located on the Kiwanis Fairgrounds.

Survivors and caregivers can fill out a "survivor form" which is available at the Fayette County American Cancer Society (ACS) office or at some churches and physicians' offices. At the dinner, survivors and caregivers will listen to speakers, receive T-shirts, enjoy a dinner provided by Shane's Rib Shack and meet other survivors and caregivers. Additionally, the group Music Alive will also perform an hour before the dinner.
