Fayette Flyers is a Radio Controlled (RC) airplane and helicopter flying club located in Fayette County and certified by the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA).

The sport of flying radio controlled airplanes has changed rapidly over the last few years. It is more affordable than ever. Today it is possible to get started with a good Ready to Fly (RTF) or Almost Ready to Fly (ARF) airplane for $150 to $250. That price buys the plane and radio and everything needed to get into the air. Most hobby shops like the Hobby Stop, located in the shopping center behind McDonald’s in Peachtree City, has everything you need to get started. They can answer any questions you might have about different equipment selections. You still need to acquire the skill to pilot the plane and experienced instructor pilots in the club will be glad to teach you what you need to know.

Model airplanes today are electric motor and battery powered or gas powered. The RTF airplane can be ready to fly in just a couple of hours or minutes of work by a novice model builder. The ARF airplane is nearly completed and can be completed in about 5 to 10 hours of work. Many RTF and ARF planes are built with plastic and specialized foam (like a foam coffee cup). Others are built with traditional balsa and heat shrink covering. The planes come painted and when assembled look great. Spending days, weeks and months of model building can still be done with the purchase of a kit but most flyers are short on time and opt for the fastest way to get in the air.

Members of the Fayette Flyers invite you to join the club and enjoy the thrill of flying your plane through aerobatic maneuvers like loops, rolls, Split S’s, immelman’s and inverted flight. Expert instructor pilots can teach you to fly so that your investment in the aircraft is protected while your skills are developed. In no time you can be flying on your own.

The club’s flying field lies between Peachtree City and Fayetteville. The 40 acre site has a pavilion, nice flat groomed grass air strip, protected flying positions, electric outlets and restroom facilities. The club currently has 42 members with skill levels from beginner to expert. The club is inexpensive to join with no initiation fee and only $50 annual dues. An AMA membership is also required and costs $58 for an open membership. The AMA website is www.modelaircraft.org. Club meetings are held once a month.
