Coweta County School Board Member Brian Roy announced his resignation from the Board on Tuesday, because he and his family were moving to a new home out-of-county.
Roy– who represents the eastern Coweta 4th school board district, and serves as the board’s vice-chairman – is in the process of moving to Hiawassee, Georgia.
Due to family health circumstances, as the board has been aware, he and his wife Lynn have just built a new home in Hiawassee to live closer to family, Roy said.  He said he believed it was best if his resignation was made effective immediately because his Coweta County home has been placed on the market.
“It has been an honor to serve with this board for the last six years, and to represent the citizens of Coweta County and District 4,” he said.  “I am proud of the accomplishments that this staff, board and system employees have made while I served on this board… This has been a tough decision, and was not made without a lot of thought, consideration and prayer.”
The school board must now fill Roy’s unexpired term.  The Coweta County Board of Education’s charter requires the board to fill vacancies by the appointment of a citizen who lives within the vacated seat’s district.
