Palmetto council off and running in 2006
It was a changing of the guard as three new council members were sworn in at the Jan. 3 Palmetto council meeting. Other business included the announcement of committee appointments and a lease agreement for the Housing Authority.

Newly elected council members Gregory Rusch, Jeff Yasson and John Miller were sworn in by City Attorney Dennis Davenport. Following the ceremony the three took their seats at the council table.

Mayor Clark Boddie announced his committee appointments for 2006. The Utilities Committee will be chaired by John Miller and will include Thomas Morrow and Jeff Yasson. The Streets/Cemeteries/Sanitation Committee will be chaired by Yasson and will include Rusch and Leon Sumlin. Joyce Baker will chair the Finance Committee and will be assisted by Morrow and Miller. Police Committee chair Sumlin will be joined by Rusch and Baker. The Parks/Buildings/Grounds Committee will be chaired by Rusch and will include Yasson and Sumlin and the Fire Committee will be headed by Morrow with Baker and Miller also on board.

The council approved a lease agreement for the location of the offices of the Palmetto, Fairburn, Union City Housing Authority. Offices will be located at 595 Main Street. The council agreed on a $500 per month rental fee with a one year contract period.
