Improv performers bring laughs to art center

On Friday, March 7 Offshoot Productions’ Gallery Players will be back in action at the Fayette Art Center and Gallery.

The actors who make up the improv troupe – Andy Fleming, Darren Mathews, Parks Stamper and Paige Steadman – bring a wide range of performing experience to the seemingly effortless improvisation that makes up each performance.

Despite their different backgrounds and relatively short time working together, they show an obvious mutual respect and delight in one another’s characters and contributions. The troupe, which has been working together for six months, has many years of combined experience, from the Georgia Renaissance Festival to professional drama, community stages and musical theatre.

“One of the keys to successful improv performance is trust in the other actors,” said Susan M. Steadma n, Ph.D., Offshoot’s artistic director. “An actor needs to adjust moment by moment to whoever is on stage with him or her. You can’t rehearse a specific scene ahead of time, since the audience provides the details, but you can create trust and respect for one another’s comic contributions during the rehearsal process.”

Audience members will have ample opportunity to be a part of the action when the Gallery Players perform an all-new show on March 7 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15, with desserts and beverages available at nominal cost. Proceeds benefit both nonprofit companies, the Fayette Art Center and Gallery and Offshoot Productions.

Reservations may be made in person at the Fayette Art Center, 2011 Ga. Highway 54 West, Fayetteville (across from Ace Hardware), by phone at 770-631-2780 and by email at fayetteartcenter@bellsouth.net.
