Goals and resolutions

My wonderful son Robbie is a student at Gordon College in Barnesville. Five days a week he gets into his car and drives the 50 minutes each way to and from his college classes. Those of you who say, “It’s only a piece of paper on the wall,” don’t have a clue of the days of utter drudgery and sacrifice a degree takes. It’s like Pig Pen in the Charlie Brown series in the Sunday comic section who always had a storm cloud over his head.

I remember going to several colleges before graduating. In fact, I had gone so long that when I went to the Registrar’s Office to register they said to me, “You are going to have to pick a semester to graduate.” I responded with, “Graduate?” I had done it so long it had become a way of life to me. Unreal as that may seem, it was the truth.

This morning my son Robbie was sleeping, and it was getting late in the morning when I called to him, “Hey Robbie, wassssupp?” His student response was, “Uuuugghhh?”

So here we are in a New Year with hopefully new goals and resolutions. It is said that many of us are into “the same ole brand” in our resolutions. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to make a covenant with you and God and take it seriously? Just think what 2006 would really be like if we took it seriously? That’s all, just take it seriously and DO IT! Then just maybe the storm cloud over your head just might turn to sunshine. What a novel idea!
