The Sandy Creek Lady Patriots moved closer to playing for a state title Wednesday, defeating Gainesville 53-49 on the road in overtime.

Creek led by as many as 10 in the fourth quarter, but host Gainesville came back and answered with an 11-0 run to swipe the lead, 43-42.

In the final seconds, Creek’s Kafi Hemphill kept her team’s season alive with a game-tying 3-pointer that sent the game into overtime.

Creek was led by three players who scored in double figures: Morgan Toles (24 points), Hemphill (14) and Jaquaye Okai (12).

The Lady Patriots will play the winner of the Blessed Trinity-Monroe Area game at 7 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion High School.
