Fayetteville’s longest serving elected official honored

“This is a very special proclamation,” says Fayetteville Mayor Ken Steele (R) as he announces Feb. 22 “Jack D. Dettmering Day” in honor of the city’s longest serving elected official. “He played a significant role in the history of Fayetteville.” Family and friends were present for the proclamation at the Feb. 21 council meeting, where Steele noted Dettmering’s five years of service on the City Council followed by 20 years as mayor from 1968-1988.
