Fayette’s Drug Task Force makes multiple arrests in Feb.Tue, 02/26/2008 - 4:54pm
By: Ben Nelms
The first two weeks of February have been busy for Fayette County Drug Task Force (DTF) agents in Fayetteville. A series of arrests came Feb. 22 when three adults and two juveniles were taken into custody at a Butler Road residence in Fayetteville, according to DTF Lt. Jody Thomas. The arrests came after undercover agents had purchased $40 to $50 amounts of crack cocaine from individuals at that location on several occasions in the past month, Thomas said. Arrested at the residence were Jose Dodson, 36, and Drashod Higgins, 19, both of the Butler Road address, Thomas said. Dodson was charged with six counts of selling cocaine to an undercover agent, while Higgins was charged with two counts of sale of cocaine and one count of possession of cocaine, said Thomas. A third man, 36-year-old Anthony Barber, of Fayetteville, fled the scene in a Tahoe SUV as agents served the search warrant, Thomas said. Barber traveled a short distance before slamming his vehicle into a deputy’s patrol car, said Thomas. Barber then fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by DTF agents and sheriff’s deputies, he said. Barber, who also had an outstanding Fayette County warrant for a probation violation, was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, reckless driving, suspended license, fleeing and attempting to elude and various traffic violations, said Thomas. Two juveniles were also arrested in the Butler Road incident. A 16-year-old Clayton County male was charged with possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and remanded to Clayton County juvenile officials, Thomas said, and was subsequently banned from Fayette County. The other juvenile, a 13-year-old related to one of the adults, was charged with possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, said Thomas. The Butler Road address has been busted on two other occasions since 2004, said Thomas. Several other arrests dotted the crime-breaking landscape during early February. Twenty-two-year-old Richard Deraney was arrested Feb. 12 for sale of Xanax to an undercover officer, 36-year-old Maya Wyms was arrested for selling liquor in her Fayetteville home, 29-year-old Atlanta resident Joe Johnson was arrested at a Ga. Highway 85 convenience store for sale of cocaine and marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and a 17-year-old Fayetteville male was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of alcohol by a minor, said Thomas. And on Feb. 7, a search warrant executed at Hightower Apartments in Fayetteville resulted in three arrests, said Thomas. Those included apartment residents James Chambers, 20, Danny Frye, 24, and 23-year-old Melissa Dorminey, all on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, he said. login to post comments |
