In April, Gordon College will host its first-ever Alumni Weekend for all graduates of the school from the 1930s to 2007. “We are excited about inviting all of our alumni and former staff and faculty back to the college,” said Lynn Yates, coordinator of alumni affairs and coordinator of the Alumni Weekend events. “While we have hosted individual class reunions in the past, this is the first time we have had all the alumni on campus at once.” Alumni Weekend is April 11-13 and kicks off with a reception for former and current faculty and staff. “It’s very important to us to reach as many former faculty and staff members as we can,” Yates said. “We do have a mailing list with a lot of names, but over the years some contact information has changed. We want to make sure we get the word out to as many people as we can.” The weekend also includes softball and baseball games featuring the college teams, the 1958 movie “Rock Around the Clock,” which will be shown in the amphitheatre on campus, a “gym seat shuffle” in Alumni Hall which is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year, a classic car show and an art show featuring works by current and former art students. “We’re looking for former art students who took art classes as part of their curriculum,” Yates said. “We plan to have an exhibition at the depot downtown in partnership with Lamar Arts showcasing the works.” On Saturday at 10 a.m., Gordon College president Lawrence Weill will present his “Vision for Tomorrow” which will highlight plans for a campus monument to honor Gordon alumni, faculty and staff who have served in the military. Weill also will discuss plans for the school’s Alumni House on Stafford Avenue. “We have a lot of different activities planned for everyone, whether they want to participate or just grab a seat, visit and catch up on old times,” Yates said. “There is such a rich history here.” To help capture that history, a room in the welcome center will be open for attendees to stop by and record their memories of their time at Gordon. Registration is required to participate in Alumni Weekend and there is a fee of $45 per person if registration is received by March 1. The cost increases to $55 for those registering after March 1.
