Four local teams move on to sweet sixteen

Fayette County's boys and girls and Sandy Creek's boys and girls won their games in the opening round of the state basketball playoffs. They now move on to the second round, which starts with the boys' games on Tuesday and the girls' games on Wednesday.

The Fayette County boys will play at Thomas County Central and the Sandy Creek boys will play at Flowery Branch.

The Fayette County girls will host Bainbridge, while the Lady Patriots will play at Gainesville.

In other basketball news, the Landmark Christian Lady War Eagles were upset by Monticello 52-44 in the opening round of the Class A playoffs on Saturday night. The loss was only their third of the season.
