Coweta County is well represented in the Class AAAAA and AAAA state tournaments, which started Wednesday at at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth.

Eight wrestlers from East Coweta and seven from Northgate are wrestling in the state tournament.

The top four wrestlers in each weight class from the region tournaments across the state advanced to the state tournament.

In the Region 4-AAAAA tournament last week, East Coweta, which finished in third place, had four wrestlers win titles in their respective weight classes: Tommy Doolittle (130), Kyle McSherry (135) and Christian Flavin (215).

One East Coweta wrestler placed second, Leighton Anglin (140), two took third, Hart Buchanan (103) and Brent Talley (171), and two took fourth, Kevin Smrekar (145) and Mark Dunston (189).

In the Region 2-AAAA tournament, Northgate, which finished in fifth place, had three wrestlers take third place, Justin Alderman (135), Tyler Mappin (160) and D.J. Arnold (171), and four took fourth, Kyle Hennen (130), Jeff Higgins (140), Austen Martin (189) and Blake Turner (285).
