Senoia is starting 2006 just like it finished 2005 — growing like a weed.

The City Council Monday night will consider a rezoning and variance request by Bob Adams Homes to build 193 homes on 214 acres on Seavy Street.

The request is to rezone the property from Residential-40 to Residential-Open Space, said city administrator Richard Ferry. The developer is also seeking a variance in the home size because the open space category requires homes to be at least 2,000 square feet. Adams plans 20 percent of the homes to be under the minimum size.

“This is going to be an empty-nester subdivision with homes ranging from $160,000 to $350,000,” Ferry said.

The subdivision is the biggest proposed for the city in several years that’s not located on Rockaway Road and Ferry said it received approval from the Planning Commission.

Monday’s meeting also marks the start of a new political era in the city as new Mayor Robert Belisle and Councilman Keith Harrison take office. After November’s election, Councilman Perry Benson was sworn into office to take over Belisle’s seat after he resigned to run for mayor.
