Season starts with six teams ranked in preseason pollTue, 02/19/2008 - 1:36pm

Starr’s Mill’s girls, who are ranked No. 1 in the AAAA pre-season poll, kicked off their 2008 campaign with a 2-0 win over Grayson. The Lady Panthers played at Walton last night after the paper went to press. The Starr’s Mill boys, ranked fourth in the AAAA preseason poll, are 1-1 after a 1-0 loss at Walton and a a 3-0 win over Grayson last Friday. The boys played at Milton last night after the paper went to press and will host Lassiter on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Marietta on Friday at 7 p.m. McIntosh’s boys started their quest to defend their state title with a 4-0 win over Columbus last Friday. The Chiefs, ranked second in the AAAA preseason poll, will host Chapin, S.C., at 8 p.m. on Friday and Oak Mountain, Ala., at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The Lady Chiefs, ranked fourth in the AAAA preseason poll, lost to Walton 5-1 last week and are playing in the Brookwood Prosys Tournament this week. They defeated Peachtree Ridge in penalty kicks 3-2 and defeated Greenbrier, Evans, ranked seventh, 3-0. They will take on Kennesaw Mountain today and will play at Blessed Trinity next Tuesday. Whitewater’s girls have started their defense of their state title. The Lady Wildcats, ranked second in the AAAA preseason poll, lost to Lovett last week 4-2 but defeated Greenbrier, Evans 3-1 last Friday. They will host Blessed Trinity at 5 p.m. on Friday. The Whitewater boys, ranked No. 1 in the AAAA preseason poll, defeated Marietta 4-0 last week but followed it up with a heartbreaking loss to rival Marist in penalty kicks 7-6. They will take on Oak Mountain, Ala., at McCurry Park South at 8 p.m. this Friday in the McIntosh Classic and will host Greenbrier, Evans, ranked third, at noon on Saturday. Fayette County’s boys started the 2008 soccer season with a 1-1 tie against Spalding last Tuesday and a 5-0 loss to Meadowcreek on Friday. The girls team lost to Spalding 2-0. Sandy Creek’s boys started their season with a 3-2 loss to Dutchtown last week. The Lady Patriots lost to Dutchtown 3-1 and then lost to Jenkins 5-0 and Savannah Arts 4-0. Sandy Creek played at Troup last night after the paper went to press. login to post comments |
