Elaine Layton has been named Newnan-Coweta Art Association’s Artist of the Month for February. A sampling of her work is on display at city hall in Newnan.

Layton started studying art because of her natural curiosity and interest in the medium. She started taking art classes with Marge Groth in 1999. She still attends art class now with Gean Westbrook enjoying the knowledge and skills and inspiration other artists share with her. Oil painting is Layton’s passion and animals are her subject of choice. She is an animal advocate and lover. Her paintings are regularly displayed at Espresso Lanes on the square in downtown Newnan, and she also displays her art at the annual Art Walk and other downtown events throughout the year.

Layton is a graduate of the University of Georgia. She also studied for four summers abroad at Cambridge University and Toulon University. She enjoys cooking and gardening in her spare time and has a beloved calico cat named Clarissa.

Layton is a member of the Newnan-Coweta Art Association. NCAA meets the third Thursday each month (from September through May) at the Harriet Alexander Art Center on Hospital Road at 7 p.m. Visitors and new members are welcome. An art demonstration is presented each month.
