Maggie Herring, 100, died Feb. 8, 2008. She was born Jan. 4, 1908 in Coweta County to the late Walter and Queenie L. Stallings Maddox. She was also preceded in death by her husband, the Clifford Herring, whom she married in 1922 and had 15 children, and children, Bernice and Lenora Bailey, Donald Herring, Mildred Brown, Helen Vaughn, and Lorena Brown, and a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Herring. She joined the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age and had served as head of the Usher Board. She was the oldest living member of the church. She was employed in private housekeeping at Morris Nursing Home. She was a member of The Rainbow Club and the Coweta County Senior Citizens Club. She was a strong woman adjusting to life to raise her children and several of her grandchildren. Services were at Saint Smyrna Baptist Church with the Rev. J. W. Russell Jr., and the Rev. Joe P. Geter officiating. Interment was at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery, Newnan. Survivors include children, Clifford Herring Jr., Flemming Herring, R. H. and Maria Herring, James and Eva Herring, Willie M. Herring, Alfred and Nancy Herring, Lonzer and Annie Boozer, Patricia Stargell, Jimmie and Linda Herring, and Charles and Evelyn Herring; 51 grandchildren; 98 great-grandchildren; 73 great-great-grandchildren; five great-great-great-grandchildren; and godchildren, Sara Brooks, Velethia Gates, and Pauline Brinkley. Roscoe Jenkins Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge. login to post comments |
