Tyrone’s two new councilmen will barely have time to get their feet wet Thursday before a controversial item hits the agenda.

New council members Grace Caldwell and Gloria Furr are expected to participate in a lengthy discussion over a new sewer contract with the city of Fairburn.

The contract has come under fire from residents who question some of the costs associated with the contract and wonder if the town is trying to expand sewer capacity to other areas of the town.

The original agreement was signed in 2001 when Fairburn was contemplating building a wastewater treatment facility. Fairburn is now shipping Tyrone’s sewerage from the Southampton residential and commercial development to Fulton County’s treatment plant at Camp Creek.

In other action, the Town Council will:

• Discuss two alcohol licenses for the Bamboo Star Chinese Restaurant and Burrito Brothers.

• Approve an ordinance establishing the Tyrone Public Library and discuss membership in the Flint River Regional Library System.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
