Break out the needle and thread – sewing shops and fabric stores say they have noticed a sizeable increase in the number of people taking classes and purchasing sewing machines and notions. Sewing, once considered a hobby for little old ladies, has joined knitting and quilting as the new pastime for 20 and 30 somethings to Babyboomers. It's a national trend that's sweeping the country. It’s relaxing, fun and it’s considered “cool” to be seen carrying knitting needles and quilting blocks.

Registration is available now at Fayette Senior Services’ new life enrichment center for a wide variety of classes throughout the year. The 22,000 square foot facility has spacious classrooms for instruction as well as comfortable fireside seating areas and cozy alcoves that are perfect for friends to sit and knit. Fayette Senior Services is located at 4 Center Drive, Fayetteville. For more info, call 770-461-0813 or visit www.fayss.org for registration forms, membership applications and a complete listing of other available classes. You do not have to be a center member to take classes.
