It just wasn’t the best possible year for for drug dealers in and around Fayette County. Efforts of agents working with Fayette County Sheriff’s Drug Suppression Task Force seized enough drugs and cash in nearly 90 cases in 2005 to give drug dealers nightmares.

In all, the task force seized 700 kilos (1,540 pounds) of cocaine, 842 pounds of marijuana and 91 pounds of methamphetamine, according to task force Lt. Jody Thomas. And in terms of cash seized as a result of task force actions, Thomas said it totaled $2,541,419.

Fayette Sheriff’s task force reported solving 88 cases during 2005. Of those, said Thomas, 71 occurred in Fayette while the remaining 17 occurred outside the county. Task force members work both inside and outside Fayette County, sometimes joining forces with other law enforcement agencies and task forces in the Atlanta metro area.
