Students from Rising Star Montessori, in Fayetteville will be going to New York City in April, 2008 to participate in the Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) program. This is the only worldwide course that promotes student and teacher interest in international relations and related subjects. The 10 students from the upper elementary class will learn aspects of conflict resolution, research skills, and communication skills. This is a wonderful opportunity for Rising Star Montessori’s students to participate in such a unique project.

Debbie Montgomery, teacher for the junior and senior elementary classes, attended the Model United Nations seminar last October. She returned with an overwhelming zeal that this would be an awesome opportunity for the children of Rising Star Montessori.

The Montessori Model United Nations program involves classroom study with a two day global education simulation experience at the United Nations in New York City. This enables students to learn about the operations of the United Nations and its role as the world’s largest international peacekeeping and humanitarian organization.

Through the process of role-playing, each student becomes a delegate of a selected nation. They write, present and debate issues affecting their nation and peoples of the world. By assuming the character of a citizen of their selected country, they fully develop an understanding of the needs of a people and the importance of accepting other’s differences.

Rising Star Montessori students have been chosen to represent the United States strong ally and economic partner, Japan as their country. They will be the only student ambassadors for the state of Georgia. Debbie Montgomery sees stars when she looks into the faces of these ambassadors from Rising Star Montessori.

Nancy Dutton and Debbie Montgomery, owners and certified Montessori teachers, along with thirteen other staff members, dedicate their lives to giving quality education to children in a Christian Montessori environment.

These young students are tomorrow’s leaders. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for these children. Please call Rising Star Montessori at 770-461-1595 if you would like to contribute to this worthy cause or to sponsor a student.
